Frequently Asked Questions

01 Will you work directly with my child?
The online sessions are to show you how to help your child. You know them best and are with them 24/7, so are the best person to help. So, I usually don’t work directly with your child, although they often briefly join the session just to say hi. It’s great to put a face to a name!

I also offer initial home visits to meet you as a family and to assess your child’s behaviour in the familiar setting of their home. This is a 2 hour session.

Please watch this video to discover more about how I work.

02 Do you work with children with a diagnosis?

Yes, I work with children who have a range of diagnoses such as:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • PDA-Pathological Demand Avoidance
  • ODD-Oppositional Defiance Disorder
  • Conduct Disorder
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Reactive Attachment Disorder
  • Social anxiety disorder/social phobia
  • Mutism
  • DLD-Developmental Language Disorder
  • Deaf/Hearing Impaired

I also work with children who do not have a diagnosis or who are awaiting an assessment.

03 What times are you available?

I offer sessions between 10am and 6pm Monday to Friday. If you are not available during these times, I offer a limited number of appointments in the evening (last session 7.30pm)

04 What ways can I pay?

Payment by bank transfer is the easiest system for me. I will send you an invoice which will include my bank sort code and account number. I will then send you a receipt confirming payment.
You can also pay with a credit or debit card. All payments need to be cleared 48 hours before we begin the sessions.

You can pay online for sessions: book a session. (home visits can be booked online but payment will not be taken at the time of booking as travel costs will need to be calculated)

05 How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on a number of factors such as the nature of your child’s difficulty, their age, and your circumstances. On our initial online consultation, I can let you know how many sessions I would anticipate you needing. If you have chosen for me to visit you at home, I will be able to tell you how many sessions I would recommend at the end of the visit.

This video will explain more about how I work

06 Can other people join the sessions?

If possible, it’s best to do the sessions with your partner/spouse. This way I can understand what it’s like for each of you because you may experience your child’s behaviour in different ways. It also ensures you have a united front and are both helping the child in the same way.

If you have booked a home visit, then it is really helpful if any relevant family members are present, such as partner/spouse, siblings.

07 What type of problems can you help me with?

I can help you if your child has any of these behaviour difficulties:

Aggression problems-tantrums, meltdowns, physical violence to self or others, destroys things

Anxiety based problems – nightmares, obsessions, compulsions, panic attacks

Agitation based problems – scared, nervous, unable to express feelings, restless, reckless, impulsive, scattered attention

Adrenaline based problems – engages in alarming behaviour, attracted to dangerous pursuits, doesn’t see danger coming

Separation anxiety

Extreme shyness

Controlling and demanding behaviour, strong counterwill and resistance

Fiercely independent – doesn’t take direction or ask for help

Resists having a connection with you – pushes you away

Sibling rivalry

08 How much do the sessions cost?

The first 30-minute consultation is free. An individual session is £80 for one hour. A 2 hour home visit will cost £160 plus the cost of travel . Travel is calculated @£30/hour pro rata return from TQ13 9DS to your home.

09 What are your qualifications?

I’ve been working as a Speech & Language Therapist for over 30 years, specialising in working with autistic children, those with ADHD and social communication difficulties and also working with deaf children. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies (Speech & Language Therapy) and a Masters Degree in Special Needs. I have a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Clinical Skills. I have studies attachment theory at the Neufeld Institute and I am an Advanced Practitioner in Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS)

I have received many awards for my work supporting families, including The Welsh Woman of the Year Award and An Outstanding Achievement Award. I have papers published in peer reviewed journals.

My most important qualification is that I have an autistic son (with a PDA profile) who was diagnosed as a teenager. I really struggled to manage his extremely challenging behaviour and violent outbursts growing up. So, I know and understand what it’s like. He was the reason I became a behaviour specialist.
